You are of more value ...

I read a wonderful blog this morning which inspired me to post one of my own.

Here is a link to The SPARROW at STARBUCKS

The old hymn His Eye is on The Sparrow is an old favorite of mine.

It was written in 1905 by

Civilla D. Martin.

It is based on Matthew 10:29-31

***

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?

and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

Fear ye not therefore,

ye are of more value than many sparrows.

***

Why should I feel discouraged,
why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely,
and long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing,
when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

I am a huge fan of that song, too. My favorite version? The one the little girl sang in Sister Act II. :) Off to see what Starbucks and Sparrows are all about! Have a great day, Flower Lady!

Oh, yes! This is reassuring! I've never heard this arrangement. Is it clarinet? Have you ever heard Ethel Waters sing it? I believe I first heard her sing it on an old (old) Billy Graham film.
